Our beautiful Lake Michigan!

March 1st, 2012 by Elaine

And our iconic South Haven pier and lighthouse!

We live on one of the most beautiful shorelines in the world.

We never get tired of it, we never take it for granted, we celebrate it endlessly.

And we love when it inspires our guests with the same sense of awe.

Come and share it with us!

Another Lake Michigan Sunset!

Here’s another picture perfect evening on Lake Michigan.

We love DOGS and CATS!

February 29th, 2012 by Elaine

One of our greatest personal passions at Yelton Manor B&B is supporting the local animal shelter, The Al-Van Humane Society.

We donate to their auctions, attend the events, and adopt our own cats from them.

One of the annual events that is very fun for visitors is “Paws on the Pier”,  which attracts approximately 1000 animal lovers- most with their dogs! The fun includes canine obstacle courses and agility course, demonstrations, exhibits, and free product samples from our business sponsors, family fun in the arts and education tent-plus snacks, photos, 50/50 raffle, contests, and much more!  Paws on the Pier is on June 30th, 2012.

We regret that Yelton Manor Bed and Breakfast is a pet-free inn, but we appreciate that most guests prefer the cleanliness, quiet and allergen-free zone. We are happy to recommend local boarding kennels if you are traveling with a pet and wish to stay with us.

Michigan Maritime Museum

February 28th, 2012 by Elaine

The Michigan Maritime Museum is right around the corner from Yelton Manor B&B!

Whether you take a jaunt out on The Lindy Lou or a day’s adventure, including a sunset cruise, on tall ship Friends Good Will, you will have a spectacular time on beautiful Lake Michigan.  The museum is fascinating to tour and we love the gift shop for wonderful South Haven souvenirs.

Frequently hosting special events, our personal favorite is over HarborFest weekend, the June 16, 2012 Classic Wooden Boat Show Festival.  Robert spent some years as President of the Board at the Michigan Maritime Museum and we are diehard fans and benefactors.

Come and get on board!!!

The Riverfront Concert Series

February 22nd, 2012 by Elaine

There isn’t a better reason to take a break from work and extend your weekend to include Thursday night than this event. The Community Riverfront Concert Series begins its season in May. Each Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m., South Haven’s Riverfront Park will host a variety of musical performances, including jazz, classical, folk and contemporary. Concerts are free to the public.

Nestled on the banks of the Black River and located just one block west of downtown South Haven, Riverfront Park provides an ideal setting for the concert series. The performances are next to the marina with seating along a gently sloping grassy hill. Concert-goers will enjoy views of boats traveling on the river, as well as fantastic sunsets over Lake Michigan.

The concerts will typically last an hour and a half and are free to the public. You may want to bring a lawn chair or blanket to relax on. A light coat may also be appropriate as gentle breezes coming off the lake are common. In the event of inclement weather, concerts will be held under the pavilion in the Huron Street parking lot.

2012 Queen’s Cup Race

February 22nd, 2012 by Elaine

South Haven, Michigan proudly hosts The 2012 Queen’s Cup Race in 2012.  June 29, 2012, marks the 74th sailing of the Queen’s Cup, one of the oldest cups in yachting. The race starts at the South Shore Yacht Club, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and finishes later on the weekend in South Haven, Michigan.

South Haven’s illustrious Tall Ship, Friends Good Will, will be ready to welcome boats crossing the finish line.

Experience the magnificent display of boats and greet your sailors as they arrive!

“HarborFest”

February 22nd, 2012 by Elaine

HarborFest is my personal favorite of all the special events and festivals in South Haven.  Maybe because it’s pre-season, before the resort is crowded, maybe it’s the focus on our amazing riverfront and lakefront and our Maritime history. Anyway, it’s a real blast. Come and boogie to live blues, country and rock music in a giant band shell in our downtown Riverfront Park each evening.  HarborFest is very much a local festival, with competitive Dragon Boat Races on the river, pancake breakfasts, boat shows, craft fairs, so much to do! The 2012 schedule is here, the dates are June 14 through the 17th.

February 22nd, 2012 by Elaine

Your one stop center for information on all things South Haven, Michigan is the local Visitor’s Bureau.

Lodging, attractions, dining, festivals, shopping, the works, it’s all in one easy stop here.

And, of course, when you are a guest at Yelton Manor Bed and Breakfast, we’ll customize your options with exactly what you want to do as well as offer our own suggestions.

#1 on the Agenda: Sunset!

February 22nd, 2012 by Elaine

Each morning at Yelton Manor B&B we post a little newsletter at the sweets table which includes the 10 day weather forecast, a bit of headline news, info on what is happening in the resort, an inspiring quote, and the most important info of all: what time the sun sets.

Nothing resets the spirit like a Lake Michigan sunset.

Our guests send their photos and we post them here.  Need some “ahhhhhhh time”? Come here and surf the photos.  Better yet, come and be in the photo yourself.

Love and Romance on the Beach of Lake Michigan

February 18th, 2012 by Elaine

On any given night when we hold hands and watch the sky coax the mood from daylight to moonlight, we experience the rush of romance. Everyone sharing our stretch of beach is suspended in the same wave of hushed awe.

Frequently, at the precise moment when the sun hangs halfway between sky and water, we witness a marriage proposal. Other times a small wedding party, barefoot in the sand.  No matter what, when the sun flashes its final farewell into the lake, there is usually applause from everyone present.
